I used to go here regularly. They have a wide selection of food, and the food is fresh and relatively good, if very greasy. There is no brown rice, and (as is the case at most Chinese buffets) few healthy options. The buffet has a soup station where you can order freshly made soup like beef tendon, beef brisket, fish ball, wonton, wonton noodle, etc. The wontons in the won ton soup are a little disappointing in that they have a long tail of dough and much more dough than meat. The pork in the shumai and the wontons tastes a little off for some reason (that has been true every time I went). This buffet also has a hibachi station and a sushi station (the sushi is OK, of the type you'd find in a grocery store). Both times I went, almost all of the people cooking and refilling the buffet stations were Spanish speakers and were not able to understand much English; this was a problem for my husband who had a question about which sushi had what fish in it. After I asked in Spanish, we were OK. Highlights of this buffet include the crabs, mussels, baked mackerel, crayfish, and soup station. I found the mushrooms in oyster sauce very good. I also enjoyed the sesame balls and red bean cakes in the dessert counter. There are octopus dishes as well as a tray of some other chewy mollusk that I couldn't identify, and that wasn't labeled. I thought the fish ball soup was good, although the fish balls themselves did not taste like fish and more like some processed fish paste. I am a little squeamish and had some trouble eating the shrimp and crayfish since the restaurant has not taken the heads, legs, or antenna off, and offers them as is. Overall, Golden Star has some issues, but is OK. Dinner is $12 and you will probably find something you like. [Update: The last time I went, I saw a kid licking the part of the soft-serve dispenser where the ice cream comes out of. OK, no more soft-serve for me...]

Best Buffet money can buy!!! It has everything you could ask for and more. Chinese buffet Hibachi section, Pho noodles section, sushi section, Bad ass kids running around with no shoes on section, and parties of 35 that is actually a family! smh. Itsa battle royal when you get into the "pit of doom" which I call the buffet line! All and all it's better than your average. What do you expect??....IT'S A CHINESE BUFFET PEOPLE!!!!

Typical Chinese Buffet food and buffet dining experience, nothing special. If you like Chinese Buffets, you'll like this place. Our waitress was super attentive and really talkative, kinda funny.

It's a great Chinese Buffet. I like this place. It's very close to my place. They have a good variety of food. I like their sea food. Last time I took Pho and I liked it.

horrible! had one dining experience here previously. it was just decent and nothing too spectacular. we thought we would give it another try since it was my girlfriend's sister's birthday and she wanted some chinese food. there weren't really too many options at that time of night and this place advertised online that they were open until 2200. we got there at 2115 and the mop guy was mopping the entrance way as we walked in. i thought, "well gee shouldn't they wait until they after they close to mop the entrance way where everyone is walking into and thus most likely to slip in immediately?" the hostess then told us, "we are about to close in 15 minutes." we replied, "it says online that you close at 2200" to which she replied, "no we close at 2130." we then looked at their print-outs provided on the cashier's countertop and those confirmed that they do indeed close at 2200. so ok maybe they wanted to close early that night and go spend some time with their families on a Tuesday night no biggie but she could've been honest. she told us that we could grab some food to go and pay by the pound so we grabbed some clamshells to claim our morsels. well if we really wanted some salad i guess that we would've been happy because everything else only had a few soggy vegetables left in it. we returned out clamshells and bid adieu. not happy and will never return to this place. if they are actually open for business and you want some just ok food that will make you feel horrible after you eat two pounds of it even though it wasn't that good (must be that msg messing with the brain), than go for it. we went to old shanghai instead in germantown and that place was super good (and open obviously).

Most of the items in the buffet aren't labeled, a serious omission by my standards. The stuff I did eat wasn't enjoyable -- too salty or just not well flavored.

I use to like it! I believe it's under new management. The food is so flavorless. The accents on the workers are so bad I was not able to understand them and then they look at me like if I'm stupid. I won't be coming here anymore! Oh and I forgot my fork was dirty! Thumbs down!

I would have given - ve star, this is worst resturant ever. They tool drink away from my hand!!!! They took away dish from my mom who was eating her soup!!!! What the heck kind of waiters. I just left my dish and walked away, they didn't even say a word. This restaurant should be brought down or new management...price is also too costly 15$ buffet!!!

This is the location of the former Shitty (City) Lite Buffet. Unfortunately, the new management has not risen above the Shitty tradition set by it's predecessor. They still serve all the Shitty standards...Shitty beef, Shitty chicken, Shitty fried rice. There's a strong Shitty smell when you walk in. I heard they now serve Shitty sushi but I didn't have the nerves to try it. I didn't see any Shitty mice or Shitty roaches which is an improvement. Mongorians didn't tear down the Shitty walls. The Shitty prices are decent.

This is your typical Chinese buffet... The Food: They have a decent variety and a sushi bar, but nothing too unique or taste particular good. The food is not bad, but the price is a bit expensive for a buffet. The Environment: About the same as other buffets, decent amount of seating. Overall is as said before, your typical Chinese buffet, everything is average.

This buffet is so close to where I live that I have been there three times over the past year and a half. Each time, I have been disappointed, so I don't think I will go again. The positive is that the place is clean, and the servers are vigilant about making sure your dirty plates are cleared. The negatives are * The iced tea is from concentrate. This always puts me in a foul mood. * The food temperatures are suspect. I am concerned about good safety. * The food sits too long on the steam tables. Vegetables are soggy, as are the fried items that should be crisp. * The food is bland. Fortunately, there is a bottle of Sriracha on every table. If your goal is to eat mass quantities of food that is not terrible, you may like this place. I expect more.

Good value! They kept filling deep fried crabs, which made me busy all nite. Wait persons are friendly, service was quick and clean.

it's a buffet.... lots of food and all you can eat. I don't like huge meals, hate that bloated feeling. the food here was ok... ya know, it's on a steamer table... the sweets really sucked. the lo mein was good but I can't eat the price of admission via noodles and feel good about it. my in-laws love it, but they are chinese and older. older chinese people love a good buffet. if you like to eat HUGE meals and not worry about price, or an older chinese person.... consider this a good review. for me this was a speed bump in my day.

DO NOT GO HERE! 400 million years, sharks have existed on our planet. Survived through 5 extinctions but now 3 sharks are killed every second. Maryland is now proudly 1 of 5 US states that has made shark finning illegal but restaurants can still use shark fin if they "use the whole shark" wake up! There's no way of ever really knowing. If we lose our sharks, we will lose our planet. Make a difference! DO NOT EAT SHARK FIN SOUP AND DO NOT SUPPORT RESTAURANTS THAT SERVE IT.

Update since my review 3 years ago. I would give a zero star if I could, don't waste your time and money with this place. I'm not even going to spend my time going into details.

Rude wait staff. They hover over you when they expect a tip. They talk about you in Chinese if there is a problem that you bring up. Selection of food was poor tonight. Most of what they have tastes good but the other factors have ruined it for me. Also the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. It is clear they simply don't care about their customers. The buffet on West Diamond ave is way better I'm every aspect.

I've been to a few Chinese buffets that are worthwhile. This one, with too few items, none of which were flavorful, isn't one of them.

We ate here once. It's a bit ghetto, tacky and broke down, but all in all it's a cheap buffet that's not too horrible. You get what you pay for. I got the lo mien and orange chicken. I also got the fried veg rice and some other kind of chicken, each time the chicken was stale. Not juicy at all. But the lo mean and fried rice was off the chain. It was crowded with tons of ghetto folks a/k/a people with no manners or class. It wasn't as culturally diverse as I would like- there were more Hispanic people and a few African Americans as well. The seating was awful, filled with holes and quite dirty. The hostess and waitress barely spoke to us and seemed quite arrogant, IMO! We haven't been back since!

Went here a year after my initial review, and the place has really gone downhill. Not even the "American" Chinese food looked appetizing. The only things that were acceptable were the dumplings and shu mai, and those probably came out of a frozen package. Will NOT be visiting again. Better Chinese food elsewhere.

Food is decent enough to keep me coming back.the shrimp is really what i go for also the mussells.i do not trust their chicken because i cannot detect what part of the chicken is presented.decent for the priice you pay.

It is a buffet yes.Had a good selection but none of it was labled, how do you know what your getting. Also the food was not really flavored the way most chinese places are.The wait staff was average at best, seems I thought I was being ignored on drinks when I see tables next to me getting more refills then me,why do I have towalk and get it my self???I well say that the line manager or whoever does a somewhat good job of rotating the food to keep it fresh. There are better out there.

I am usually not too fond of Chinese Buffets. This one just opened earlier this month, where the City (Shitty) Lite Buffet use to be. It is occupying the same space, but claim to be under new management and rebranded to Golden Star Buffet. It is also right outside of my neighborhood. The high rating may be because the restaurant is new. I went on Christmas Eve, and they were pretty crowded. A crowded buffet means that the food gets turned over faster, which makes the food fresher. Its like the chicken in the egg. If you have a crowded buffet, then you are able to generate better food, and you cant generate better food if your buffet is not crowded. I tried a bit of everything, and it seemed that everything that I tried had not been sitting out too long. They have the normal chinese buffet items, but also have sushi, a noodles bar with pho, They also had seafood items such as crabs, raw & cooked oysters, cocktail shrimps, crawl fish. I will return, and hope that they are able to continue to keep the same level of quality.

Great buffet as it is an excellent value for the price. The food is delicious. I've been going there so much that my wife is begging me to go somewhere. :) I'm addicted

Thought it would be good and fast place with kids but did not care for it. Lots of different dishes. You'd be happy if you like crabs and shrimps because there was a lot of it and nice size too! Kids like the pizza and ice cream. Food is a little too greasy for me. Lots of fried food. Sushi was ok. Floor was dangerously slippery every where except on carpet. Price is good considering amount of food.
